As part of the Shanghai International Film Festival and to showcase 2012 Miss Universe China Pageant contestants, the China Beauty Charity Fund held a charity gala at the Pearl Oriental Riverside Hotel and Convention Center on June 18, 2012. About 1,000 people, including celebrities and high level business executives attended the event.
Of the total amount raised the funds will be divided to benefit below listed CBCF initiatives:
Shanghai International Film Festival Scholarships: A total of RMB 2,000,000 will be used to fund hard costs for the production of four different films from established and emerging female Chinese directors. Each will receive RMB 500,000 to help produce a short film or documentary that addresses important women's issues in today's society.
Operation Smile: A total of RMB 2,000,000 will go to fund 400 operations for children in China with cleft pallet who are unable to otherwise pay the costs for the surgery.
Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation / Safety for Mothers and Infants Program: The remaining funds, which exceeded RMB 4,000,000, will go to the Safety for Mothers and Infants Program, providing supplies and construction to improve facilities for maternal and children's healthcare facilities in the most impoverished areas in China.
